If you’ve ever made your own Limoncello you know that it is a tedious process that requires an abundance of patience. From peeling lemons, to soaking the peels in alcohol for around a month (Everclear works well), to straining out the peels, to combining with the perfect amount of simple syrup, and FINALLY to chilling for a few hours… the process goes on and on…
*Sidenote, I highly recommend pouring yourself a cocktail before settling in to peel a dozen plus lemons.
Anyway, I usually associate Limoncello with Christmas as the girls in my family get together to make a huge batch which we then bottle up and give away as gifts.
Imagine my surprise and delight when I heard that one of my favorite local establishments, City Gate Spirits decided to make their own Limoncello!
I’ll happily take all of that lemon deliciousness with none of the hassle!
Even more intriguing to me is the fact that this batch hit the shelves right as the hot Florida summer is approaching. How perfect?
Get yourself a bottle and immediately stash it in the freezer. Limoncello is perfect to sip over ice, mix with some sweet tea, or you could try this tasty concoction I mixed up the other day.
I’ve been on a Dirty Shirley kick lately (just a fancy name for a boozy Shirley Temple) so I tried to make something along those lines with a lemon twist. It turned out to be sweet, refreshing, and absolutely the perfect pool cocktail. It only feels right to name this drink the “Cherry-cello” as we’re working with Limoncello and Grenadine, here!
Give it a try, let me know what you think!
